Politics in the Balkans in general is fast-moving but Croatia has recovered from the Civil wars in the late eighties and nineties earlier than its southern neighbours. Tourism has come back, but wounds of the war remain, so bear in mind that for local politics remains a sensitive issue. One aim of modern Croatia is the admission to EU and other international organisations and therefore the region is currently in a dynamic phase of modernisation and economic development.
