The once largest place on the island of the same name lies in the center of the southern island coast. In the old city Rab live nowadays only 739 inhabitants (as per last census), who mostly live on the tourism. Opposite the city port lies equal Banjol. In Palit a modern shopping street developed.
Rab was municipality in the past. This is a city with a large number of buildings that are witnesses to the long past. Rab City is the medieval urban center surrounded by walls, the old city is dominated by four bell towers in the Romanesque style. On the square, St. Christopher is a fountain with two sculptures, Kalifront and shepherdess Draga, the legends that are talking about an unhappy love.

How to get to Rab
From Jablanac- Misnjak drive the ferry toward to the island of Rab. It also has a ferry line to Baska from Lopar.
From Rijeka daily toward the island of Rab:
- Double-day bus - run daily schedule is available at the www.autotrans.hr
- Once on the day the catamaran - a daily schedule of departure can be found at www.jadrolinija.hr.
The main road connecting the island with Misnjak and Lopar. Approximately in the middle of the island north of the junction is Banjol leads in the direction of Kampor after a few metres to the city or the neighbouring Palit. Parking lots are both to the waterfront promenade or the parking spaces in Palit.

History of Rab
The name of the island - Rab, Arbe, Arbia, Arve or Arba - is believed to come from the Illyrian word Arb, which means dark, green, forested. The Illyrians were the first rulers of the island, followed by Greeks, Romans, Bysantiener, Venetians and Hungarian-Croatian rulers, all their influence and their traces on the island have left behind. On the city walls, churches, palaces and portals, are present traces which reflect different architectural styles. Emperor Augustus brought in the old town of Rab, 10 years BC, the status of a Municipium, that city with self-government. His successors proved to the island with the rare title of "Felix" the honor. Felix Arba means "Happy Rab". The current patron saint St. Christopher has a legend in the 11th Century the city was rescued before the Italo-Normans. Find his honor each year on the day of St. Christopher (July 27), the Knights games on the island. In 1889, the City Council, explained Rab to the holiday and resort. The heyday of tourism experienced the island between the two world wars. King Edward VIII and his wife stayed in 1936 on the island and also visited the 2 years before officials inaugurated natural beach, with the opening of the Nudism officially began on the island. Beginning of the 20th Upper century, foresters Pravdoje Belia above the town of Rab the park "Komrcar". The park consists mainly of centuries-old pines, firs, agaves and Indian figs. This park invites you to relax, long walks.
What to see in Rab
Beside Dubrovnik, Trogir and Piran in Slovenia Rab is known as the most beautiful city on the Croatian coast.
Rab prominent landmarks are the four bell towers, whose appearance of the distance considered it to remember a four-master. These four towers are among the partially preserved churches, Holly John T., of the Holy Cross church, the Cathedral of St. Andrew and Maria Ascension.
Along the eastern side of the Old Town is the waterfront promenade Obala kralja Petra Krešimira IV.
- Komrcar Park - located near the city walls, below which is beautiful promenade and beach, where you can spend pleasant hours in the shade of pine trees, and essence of the sea.
