Orlec
From Croatia
From Cres town go south and before Vransko lake turn left to Orlec. In the village still lives about 150 inhabitants, and it lies about 240 m above the sea level and it has no port.
The settlement was known from the 16th Century as a resident of Dalmatia which fled from the Turks to the island. The name derives from Croatian word "Orao", which means eagle. Sure, there can also be meant griffon vulture.
The residents live here solely by the sheep farming. Many ancient stone walls bear witness to it.
The focus is the parish church of St. Anthony. Anthony, the patron saint of livestock breeders. This came around 1700 from the Franciscan monastery after Cres Orlec. The interior walls of the church were painted by a Slovenian painter in 1958 and shows the population of Orlec, in their national costumes. The church has a bell tower.

History of Orlec
According to a tradition the village is established in the 16th century. At that time, it was residents of the Dalmatian from hinterland which fled from the Turks. They settled down in Orlec.
Their folk dress, dances and songs are still in their homeland.
