The City Novi Vinodolski is one of the most important holiday places of the Kvarner bay. Due to the vineyards that surround Novi Vinodol city, the place has got the name (Vinodolski means the wine valley). The Frankopan family has in the 13th century established the settlement called "Novi" (new). For this reason the place in the year 1953 received the name Novi Vinodolski. Only few kilometers south of Novi Vinodolski the region Kvarner Bay ends. Novi Vinodolski is the unique summer destination, placed on the northern part of the Adriatic coast, in the Kvarner bay. It is the main place on the Riviera of Novi Vinodolski at the entrance of the Vinodol valley. Novi Vinodolski was known as a political and a cultural center of the Principality of Vinodol ("Vinodol" - "Vallis vinearia") and it is famous for “The Vinodol Code" from 1288. Here you will find magnificent beaches, cultural heritage, sport and recreation areas and cultural and entertaining events. The soul and spirit of this outstanding town can be felt in every step of the old town like on the walls of the Roman fortress "Lopsica", remains of the Paulist friars' monastery, Frankopan’s citadel with stronghold, cathedral, chapel of the Holy Trinity and St. Marin. Anyway, you must visit Novi Vinodolski and feel the moments of magnificent vacation!

How to get to Novi Vinodolski
Novi Vinodolski is settled on the road Jadranska magistrala (the main road directly to the Adria along) between Crikvenica and Senj. To get to the goal, you continue the road A6 to Rijeka or the A1 to Zuta Lokva. It is only 45 km far from Rijeka. It is connected by the railway station in Rijeka, airport of Krk Island-Rijeka with Europe and the whole Mediterranean.

History of Novi Vinodolski
Novi Vinodolski has a long and memorable past. The surrounding area has a rich cultural monuments dating back from an ancient history. This area was the center of the Venetian attacks from the west and the Turkish invasion from the east. In the past, Novi Vinodolski has been the most important political and cultural center and a center of the Vinodol Principality being famous for "The Vinodol Code" from 1288. Novi Vinodolski was the cradle of brothers- writers of the family Mazuranic.
This beautiful town has a specific panorama which was recognized in the past, and it is still valuable as it will be in the future.
The town is full of the cultural heritage because of the many rules who were present here and who left traces of their existence. Here are still present walls of the Roman fortress "Lopsica", remains of the Paulist friars' monastery, Frankopan citadel with stronghold, chapel of the Holy Trinity and St. Marin. Here are placed the reading club and a library from 1845, homeland museum and gallery, an old core of the town and an authentic folklore of Novi Vinodolski. The old traditional customs in Novi Vinodolski are the so called Carnival (Mesopusni) customs. These events take place at the end of February on the town streets and squares. Every year in July the City Tourist Society organizes the promotional and entertaining project called the Summer Carnival (Ljetni karneval), attended by people from all Europe. Vinodolski is famous for the Vinodol Law from 1288, one of the most important medieval documents of which plebeians where protected from the excessive influence of feudal power. It was an important historical center and till today has attained its attractiveness which helped in the development of tourism and became the known destination in the whole Europe.
What to see in Novi Vinodolski
The upper town is an interesting sight which is different from the tourist center in the center with its sub-holiday homes and vacation settlements and Zagori Povile. The square tower in the Old City (Kvadrac) dates from the 13th century and it is remaining of Franciscan Castle facility. Novi Grad, the castle of the princes Frankopan

Novi Vinodolski is place surrounded by the beautiful landscape and magnificent places. The Valley of Vinodol is very attractive for tourists because of the scenic beauty.
You can arrange beautiful excursions by boat to the island Krk. Some of the most interesting places are Vrbnik, Vinca, Baska and Klimno.
If you have a full day trip, you can visit Rab and the island Goli Otok also.

Cultural events in Novi Vinodolski
Because of tourism development, Novi Vinodolski became center of cultural events and offers many interesting sights to see. The most popular event is the old traditional winter custom in Novi Vinodolski called Carnival (Mesopusni). This event takes place on the town streets and squares, usually at the end of February and in the beginning of March. Every year in the June is organized promotional and entertainment mega-project-the Summer Carnival (Ljetni karneval), by the Town Tourist Society and it is attended by people from many European countries. Lately this manifestation is gaining the international reputation.
