Baska is a small tourist resort on the Krk Island. One of the most desirable tourist destinations on the Adriatic. It lies in the gentle valley, with the picturesque background of Velebit mountain and the island of Prvic, which seems to protect from all sides, the beautiful pebble beach, which many would say that is one of the most beautiful in the Adriatic. How to get to Baska

On the Krk Island is located at the airport that landing national and international flights. It is located approximately 30 km from the town of Rijeka and rail and bus stations, which connect it with each day with Italy, Austria, Germany and Hungary. Insight into history of Baska

  • At the locality Mala Luka, above the ancient settlement Bosar were discovered remains of a fortification wall and an early church (with pilasters).
  • At the cemetery hill, near the former parish church of St. John (originally, arose around 1100, with bell tower on the facade) can be found remnants of the medieval settlement, the 1380 burnt by the Venetians.

Japodian, but also the rest of Illyrian tribe, were settled at this place, even in ancient times. In 2. century BC developed a Roman colony in the area by the sea that were Illyrian tribe. In 418. The St. John on a hill developed a settlement Baska. 1232. Baska was first mentioned as a fortified city.

After the Illyrian and Roman times, Baska was under Byzantine Empire, while in the Middle Ages, Baska felt under the authority of Venice, Austria and was part of Napoleon province Ilirija. The fall of Napoleon, Baska and Krk again return under the Austrian government. Under it remains until by the end of the First World War (1918.), When the island entered the composition of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
