Baska is a small tourist resort on the Krk Island. One of the most desirable tourist destinations on the Adriatic. It lies in the gentle valley, with the picturesque background of Velebit mountain and the island of Prvic, which seems to protect from all sides, the beautiful pebbly beach, and many would say that is one of the most beautiful in the Adriatic.

Baska itself is a treasure of the island, which has been genuine place for fans. It is a beautiful small town, also with the possibility of sport and amusement of all kind. Baska lies in a wide bay framed by mountains and has 2-km-long fine gravel beach.

How to get to Baska

On the Krk Island is located an airport in which are landing national and international flights. It is located approximately 30 km from the town of Rijeka and rail and bus stations, which connect it each day with Italy, Austria, Germany and Hungary. It is well connected with the interior, and with the mainland is connected by a bridge Krk (length of 1309 meters), which begins in the town of Kraljevica.

Between Baska on the island of Krk and Lopar on the island of Rab in the summer months, operates a ferry. From the mainland south of Rijeka go over the Krk bridge which is located in the north on the island of Krk. Then take the Glavna Cesta (The main road) 102 to Baska.

You can also go by plane to the Rijeka airport that is located directly behind the bridge "Krčki Most", near Omisalj. From there take a bus to Baska.

Insight into history of Baska

Japodian, but also the rest of Illyrian tribes, were settled at this place, even in the ancient times. In 2. century BC developed a Roman colony in the area by the sea that were Illyrian tribes. In the year 418 the St. John on a hill developed a settlement Baska. 1232. Baska was first mentioned as a fortified city.

After the Illyrian and Roman times, Baska was under the Byzantine Empire, while in the Middle Ages, Baska felt under the authority of Venice, Austria and was a part of Napoleon's province Iliria. After the fall of Napoleon, Baska and Krk again return under the Austrian government. Under it remains until the end of the First World War (1918.), When the island entered the composition of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

Places of excursions in the region of Baska

A copy of the famous stone tablet of Baška "Bašćanska ploča" (1851 excavated here)is placed in the Benedictine Church of St. Lucija (early Church) in Jurandvor (1 km northwest of Baska). The original piece is kept in the Academy of Science and Arts in Zagreb.
